Reel World Learning: Integrating Media in the English Language Classroom is a book that aims to bridge the gap between traditional print-centred classrooms and the media-saturated real world of students. It is targeted at secondary school English and Literature teachers who would like to seek out innovative ways to engage their students while teaching literacy and language skills. Through the use of films, television, popular music, computer games, advertising and other forms of media, teachers will be able to teach fundamental skills in media texts and show their correlation to print texts. Sample lessons will be provided to show how pedagogical strategies can be introduced into structured lessons which demonstrate how these skills can be explicitly shared with students. The ultimate aim is to change the mindset of teachers and encourage them to innovate, explore and experiment with new modes of teaching language in the classroom and to make learning relevant and meaningful to today"s culturally diverse and techno savvy youths.
